Wandering around the SW and Chihuly in the Garden

After leaving Mexico and touring San Diego with one of the women from the WomenRV forum, I headed over to another friend's house to retrieve the orphaned Honda Fit that had been parked in Sharon's back yard since right before Christmas.   After rinsing a little SoCal dust off, the car was recognizable.   But then the RV looked more recognizable after rinsing some of the Mexico dust off her, too.

Sharon was busy packing for an up coming cruise but I made sure to distract her here and there. (She just posted something about forgetting her camera, again, so she may claim that it was my fault for distracting her.....but really the trip to the casino and the lobster buffet was all her recommendation, really!)

One afternoon we drove over to one of the larger RV dealers in the area. Southren California seems to have more of the smaller RV's on their lots.  Even at RV shows, I don't find too many back in Ohio.  We found one with a few interesting features and I made sure to call Sharon back to the kitchen area to demonstrate one of them. At first she was puzzled until I asked her to open the freezer compartment.   I know several women that would have to keep their little stool set up permanent in front of the freezer.    Okay, maybe Sharon exaggerated a little but, I am thinking that our friend Mitch would be needing a "grabber" to retrieve items from the back of that thing.

Sharon and I both liked the Thor Axis (also Vegas) 26 foot Class A.  I also liked that it was only 8 feet wide and the front chairs both turned around to expand the living room area.   There were a couple of questionable items but it is nice to now that the manufacturers are beginning to think more creatively.   Another nice thing I noticed was that none of the smaller units had carpeting.....  Finally someone got the message about practicality.

Imagine sitting and looking out that front window at an inspirational view....

Sharon also drove us through the old town section of Temecula. She said most of the buildings are original.  It reminded me of some of the older buildings Nan and I saw in Dawson City.  You just imagine the show girls (or working girls) hanging out some of the windows.

When I left Sharon's driveway I headed towards Phoenix by way of an over night stay at Quartzsite.  The big tent was gone but there were still a lot of vendors trying to make a living.  Luckily I didn't walk up and down too many rows.  I did pick up an nice metal telescoping rake.   I was able to get in contact with Shiela, who is wintering out on some of the BLM land.   I drove out and picked her up for breakfast before I headed back on the highway east.   Sheila pointed out the rig in the next picture.  Pretty sweet set up. Notice the "electric" and "water" hook-ups on the right?  Nice, huh?   Except this is out in the boondocking BLM area and there are no hook-ups out here.  I am guessing that if you park out in the dust and sun long enough, one's sense of humor can twist in the wind.....

One of the members of the womenrv group organized this last gtg at Usery Recreational Area near Phoenix.   We are back to camping in the desert with the cactus while at night you can look over and see the lights of Phoenix in the distance.

Working around the circle.....Debbie in the red shirt (and Duncan),  Anita, Alice, Dawn, Diane, Judy, and Lyn with her back to that camera.   Anyone want to try to figure out how old that cactus is on the left?

Here is our "almost" birthday girl.....Alice (Ava)

Anita just drove in for the day and parked in Lyn's site for the afternoon.  That is Anita's  PWT (Pretty White Truck) on the left whispering secrets to Lyn's camper.

I know that most readers from of the rest of the states won't understand but we had to move into the shade because the sun was too warm......

"It's okay Deb, you know she is really just taking a picture of me, because I am so handsome," reassured Duncan.

Walks are fun .....until you get a cactus thorn in a paw......

On Monday, Karen, Nikki and I headed over to the Desert Botanical Garden and their Chihuly  in the Garden Exposition.

Karen and Nikki on the left walking.

Karen and Nikki posing in front of the Saguaro so that you can see the size. These guys have some age on them........You know I am talking about the cactus, right?

While stopping at one of the snack shops for an over priced lunch we got a visit from a hungry Road Runner that had figured out that that pigeons, doves and chipmunks weren't they only ones who could benefit from this setting.

walking up to the small cattail enclosed setting was part of what made this piece.....

But then the detail and the reflections take their place in the experience.

Karen and Nikki making their way back to the front of the garden and hopefully the parking lot.  We had had enough walking.

No pictures of the dinner of "left overs" Judy, Lyn, Karen, Nikki and I shared tonight but no one left hungry.    Tomorrow most of us are planning a low key day of reading, dog walking and listening to the birds......   If I can find a Walmart, there may be an exciting oil change and new air filter for the RV.
