Of WIngs Over Water

The fog isn't lifting and our wheels are not moving so I will try to upload the birds.....  And six days later I am back to an internet connection....Such is life....

There are laws that protect the whales from harassment by anyone and the lagoon is patrolled to protect the whales and their babies but apparently there are no similar rules about bird harassment.   As we made the trip back to the dock our guide drove us near the beautiful dunes and the birds resting and feeding there.   As we rode past the dunes at a moderate pace he would clap his hands and the resting birds would lift off in mass.   Sometimes they would settle a bit down the shoreline only to be requested to lift off once again.   Then again, with multiple tour companies and tours per day, they might just have considered us the 8 AM tour heading back to port.

Another story I forgot to include with the whale pictures......Edgar (our bus guide) told us that we had missed the extra excitement of the day before.  Well, first he asked if we had seen any baby calves dead up on shore....   Actually we were never that close to shore to know.   He said that it is not unusual for a baby to "beach" itself.  Sort of the laws of nature in some part.   Apparently, the day before the folks that patrol the waters to be sure all the tour companies are following the rules had approach one of their tour boats and requested help.  When Edgar had returned in the bus to pick them up he watched as a boat load of people got of the boat with sandy, wet feet and pants wet to their waists.   It had taken 15 people, between the officials and the tourist to "roll" a recently beached baby back into the water.  Edgar said that the baby appeared fine once he was back in the water and did swim away.  No mention was made of a worried mother.....    Edgar hadn't seen the video of the rescue but it was being sent to him by one of the tourists.      Oh, another bit of whale trivia. Mother whales don't have nipples to nurse their babies...but the just shoot the milky, largely fatty, stuff into the water and the babies munch on hunks of ?????  Curds?  Don't know what they are called but they hunks just flat there for the babies to eat....

Back to the harassment of birds for the tourist's pictures.   Thank you birds!

Lots of signs tell you to watch for cows and eventually there will be cows in the road.

The Hotel that we parked in had nice looking rooms and a colorful wall around our parking spaces.  We didn't trust the electric which was showing high off the charts but for a New Year's Eve it was pretty quiet.

This is a shot of the back of the entrance arch.   Luckily there was a side entrance for tall RV's.

Now on to the beach.....
