We made it to La Paz and stayed in a campground just outside of town for one night. Liz, Mitch and I made a Walmart run, toured the water front touristy area and stopped for a taste of Burger King before heading back to the rigs and the dogs. The marina was very nice (see Liz's Blog for pictures of the water and the statures that line the waterfront.) I was driving and looking for all the "ALTO" signs.
The next morning as we were making our way out of town, you can see a lot while waiting for the lights to change......
We headed out beyond town to visit the "free" beach. One of the seasonal campers at another campground had said it was popular with Canadian. This is a shot of the Canadian's area. Okay, they weren't all Canadians, but they were people that like "free" beach camping.
We had been warned that the wind was usually very strong here but occasionally there is a quiet day. We arrived on the quiet, calm day. The water is shallow quiet a ways out and makes for lovely wadding and beautiful colors.
The first half of the day was quiet and filled with hiking around and......
Playing in the water. Stuart was thrilled. Remi was making friends with Belle the German Shepherd back on shore.
Belle's hooman let Stuart chase Belle's ball into the surf. Stuart had been allowed off leash by this time.
There were quiet pensive, reflective moments.....
Stuart was out drying off and pensively looking back to see if Belle was still out playing....sigh. Remi, while off leash, didn't know whether to stay with Stuart or make his way over to Mitch's trailer and our chairs.
Then the Sunday afternoon local traffic started driving by on the beach in front of the rigs and all the dogs stayed on leashes after that. Some locals were better at evaluating the difference between hard and soft sand than others. The four of us, after seeing that the area with all the "Canadians" was pretty full, got out and walked the driving choices before deciding where to drive and what part of the beach was hard pack.
Not everyone got out to check the routes first. We did all start to watch but as the wheels got lover and lover it struck us that maybe the orange blocks might provide some purchase for the wheels. We headed over just about the same time a family of Mexicans that had been watching from the beach area must have decided that it might be time to offer something. The young man utilized the blocks some but the best help came when someone showed up with a large black diesel truck with a tow strap of some sort. The young wife with the small child on her hip was taking it all in stride. She mentioned that maybe her husband might even listen for a day or too. I mentioned that we had all gotten out and walked the driving choices between the dunes and on the beach because of what we had read in the "book." She laughed and said that she had the same book and had read the same passage to her husband, but he didn't think it was needed...Or at least he didn't think he needed it...... :=)
But after the excitement....the sunset painted the sky with pinks and blues...
And in the morning the winds were back and the clouds held a different story....
Again at another traffic light coming back around town to pick up Highway 1....
